Our past experiences of being parented, and how people have treated us more generally in our lives, impact our relationships with our children and our parenting. In one way or another we are all shaped by our previous experiences, especially our early experiences. For some people the impacts can be positive or manageable. For others, their past can make parenting feel like an upwards battle.
It may be that you swore you would parent your children differently, but now your children are here, you struggle not to fall into the same traps as your parents. It may be that you have read or been advised that becoming aware of how your past may impact your parenting will help you on your parenting journey. Or it may be that you realise certain areas of your parenting, or your child’s behaviour, really push your buttons but you are unsure why or what to do differently.
I can help. I can provide a safe, non-judgmental space to help you explore the impact of the past on your present, in order to help you move towards the parent you want to be.
